Micqaela Jones

Elko, Nevada

Micqaela Jones is an artist and an enrolled member of the Temoak Tribe of Western Shoshone. Born and raised on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation of the Shoshone and Paiute Nations, she spent her youth hunting, fishing, and enjoying the beauty of Nevada's outdoors with her family. Her father, also a painter, instilled in her a love of hard work and play.

After moving to Elko, Nevada, Micqaela began working for her father's construction company and did not envision an art career for herself. However, when she and her soon-to-be husband, Alex, moved to Santa Cruz, California, Micqaela began painting seriously. She was given an opportunity to show her art through a gallery owner named Rod Erwin, and after he sold several of her pieces, her career and life quickly changed.

Since 2002, Micqaela has participated in various shows around the country, including the Santa Fe Indian Market, Eiteljorg Museum Indian Art Market, Autry Museum Los Angeles, Cherokee Art Market, Red Earth Market, as well as several museum shows and solo exhibits. Her work intertwines her Shoshone culture with contemporary expressions, resulting in colorful and vivid paintings. She continues to work on new ideas, new paintings, and new techniques, hoping that her audience enjoys looking at her art as much as she enjoys creating it.
